Testing Teaching Methods
education researchTo find out whether a new teaching method works, researchers increasingly use randomised trials. Schools or classes are (1) at random to either the new method or the usual one, so that the two groups are similar at the start. Any (2) in results at the end can then be put down to the method rather than to differences between pupils. Such trials are (3) to run well: teachers may not follow the new method exactly, and some pupils (4) out before the final test.
